MLB Rumors: Latest Buzz From Around the AL

Kevin AbblittJun 4, 2012

It is never too early to begin generating rumors. We all salivate over gossip, so why not let your expressive opinions runs free?

As the summer months loom upon us, so too does the MLB trade deadline. Still a full two months away, the generated buzz is early, leaving it up to time to tell truth from untruth and what will unfold in the coming weeks.

Time is of the essence, and it couldn't be more appropriate for teams in contention looking to bolster their lineups to make a run deep in the playoffs. That being said, between here and July 31st, potential players' stocks can either rise or fall with the tide. An element which can only be controlled by focusing on present priorities and taking it one game at a time.

Best potentially available starters

With the Red Sox facing a slew of injuries to their starting rotation, it should come as no surprise, when they look to make a summer splash. According to to WEEI.com's Rob Bradford, The Red Sox are prioritizing starting pitching depth leading up to the trade deadline.

Zach Greinke, Shaun Marcum and Ryan Dempster all have one thing in common: Pinstripes will not be worn anytime soon. Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Yankees have little interest in the Brewers right-handers, Greinke and Marcum, as well as the Cubs' Dempster.

However, the AL East's top two contenders appear to be locked at a standstill upon the midst of starting pitcher, Matt Garza. Heyman notes that Garza interests the Yankees more than any other potentially available starters.

Matching their interest, the injury threatened Red Sox could use a veteran arm in Garza as well. According to Danny Knobler of CBSsports.com's Twitter handle, he writes, I've heard Red Sox as a possible Garza suitor, too. I'm sure Theo would love a Red Sox-Yankees battle for him.

Oswalt signing

To make room for Oswalt to fit into the Rangers' rotation, a rearrangement, or house cleaning of sorts will need to be looked at in Arlington. According to Heyman's report, the Rangers could end up shopping pitchers Mark Lowe and Scott Feldman as the non-waiver deadline approaches.

Where will Vernon Wells wind up upon return?

The surging Angels have not only begun to turn their season around, but have climbed back into contention capping off an 11-5 run entering Friday. According to the Los Angeles Times report, Vernon Wells could possibly be the odd man out in the Angels outfield.

With the high caliber of play split between the American League Rookie of the month of May, Mike Trout and Mark Trumbo, Wells would be looking toward a possible DH role. A lot can happen in two months, but as for right now, it doesn't look very promising for the veteran outfielder.

Without question, the 20-year-old has resurrected the Halos into form. It is safe for Trout to say, "I put the team on my back doe."

Return of the Mack

If you thought you had seen the last from the timeless veteran, Miguel Tejada, think again.

According to The Baltimore Sun's reports, the O's are in dire need of a veteran to bolster their offensive ranks. Miguel Tejada has been swinging a hot bat down in Norfolk, VA, so why not make the move? Maybe Tejada still has what it takes to compete at a high level and drag them out of their current offensive drought.

Realigning the infield, it makes sense.

Chris Davis has already shown his versatility on the rubber, adding a win to his name, so why not send him to man the duties of the outfield? Thus, Mark Reynolds can traverse across the diamond, landing at first base, for the setup of Tejada to return to his third base position.

Youkilis will land in...

Now that Oswalt is off the market, the trade talk encircling Kevin Youkilis begins to heat up. According to reports by Ben Nicholson-Smith, the rumors have teams such as the Dodgers, Phillies, Diamondbacks and White Sox are interested in acquiring him.
