Tottenham Transfer News: Gareth Bale May Leave White Hart Lane If Redknapp Goes

Dan TalintyreJun 1, 2018

When Didier Drogba sent Manuel Neuer the wrong way and slotted home that penalty, Tottenham Hotspur knew that they were going to be hard-pressed to keep Gareth Bale.

The Welshman previously stated his desire to play in the UEFA Champions League next season to the Daily Mail, and if Spurs couldn't provide him with that opportunity, he'd be willing to examine his options. So when Chelsea clinched Tottenham's position with their thrilling win over Bayern Munich, keeping Bale was always going to be a tough ask.

Throw in to that mix the uncertainty over manager Harry Redknapp's future at White Hart Lane and the situation just became incredibly difficult.

According to Mirror Football, Bale's future at Tottenham could well come down to whether or not Redknapp continues as the manager of the club. Rednkapp is currently in talks with chairman Daniel Levy trying to finalize a contract negotiation for next season.

The contract looked set to be finalized around February, but then the England position became vacant and now Levy is in no rush to help Redknapp it seems, who is starting to receive big money offers from clubs overseas.

Having said all that, Tottenham would be foolish to let Redknapp go if it meant that they lost Gareth Bale in the process. They may well lose Luka Modric but losing Bale would be a double-blow that Spurs simply do not need.

The 22-year-old may well leave the club under the guise of needing to play Champions League football, and Tottenham officials have known that now for several months. If that does happen, it will no doubt hurt though it may have been seen as an inevitable outcome.

But to lose Bale to a contract negotiation breakdown between Levy and Redknapp? It seems simply ridiculous and for Spurs' sake, some sort of contract agreement must be reached between the two so that they can focus on re-signing one of the best players in the league, let alone their team.

Bale scored nine goals and had 10 assists for Tottenham in the English Premier League this season, as well as two goals in their FA Cup campaign. He finished with the second-highest average match rating for Spurs this season and would deal a devastating blow should he leave.

Do you think Gareth Bale will leave if Harry Redknapp goes?
