Chelsea Transfer Rumors: Blues Make Strong Statement with Expensive Pursuits

Austin GreenJun 7, 2018

With his high-profile pursuits of young stars Hulk and Eden Hazard, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has made it clear that the Blues will pay whatever it takes to win.

After getting their first taste of Champions League glory, the 2012 winners are obviously hungry to continue their success.

They're reportedly willing to shell out £38 million for Hulk and £32 million for Hazard. Although those price tags would make many owners cringe, Abramovich is definitely making the correct move.

If the Hazard deal goes through (and it's all but assured at this point), the Blues will have one of the most exciting young players in the world.

The 21-year-old midfielder and winger is simply magical with the ball at his feet. With his quickness, creativity and incredible touch, he's able to pick apart opposing defenses with ease. He's also got good strength and toughness for his size, which will be handy in the rough-and-tumble EPL.

Last season, Hazard scored 21 goals for Lille. If he can come anywhere near that number in his first year for Chelsea, he will be well worth the hefty price tag.

As for Hulk, he'll also delight the fans at Stamford Bridge with his stylish and effective play. The powerful forward has scored 57 goals in 91 appearances over the last two seasons for Porto, so he should help ease the pain of losing Chelsea legend Didier Drogba.

Although it will be very tough to repeat their 2012 Champions League performance, the Blues are clearly willing to pay the price of success. And although money certainly can't buy championships, these two signings would go a long way toward helping Chelsea stay at the top of the football world.
