Swansea City: 5 Possible Replacements for Brendan Rodgers

It was finally made official on Friday that Swansea City have agreed to let manager Brendan Rodgers join Liverpool under the same position he held at the Liberty Stadium (via the Daily Mail).

And with the appointment of Rodgers at Anfield, the search for the newest manager at the club has begun.

Club chairman Huw Jenkins has actively begun his search for his new man in charge and will hope to find his man sooner rather than later.

Here are five names that have already been linked with the job in Wales.

Graeme Jones

If you do not know who Graeme Jones is now, you may get to know him quite quickly in the coming weeks as he is the favorite to land the Swansea job.

Jones, currently the assistant manager at Wigan, is Roberto Martinez's No. 2 and he emerging as the favourite for the job according to the Daily Mail.

Jones also began his career in management with the Swans, as he was alongside Martinez at the club for two seasons.

It also appears that his lack of experience is no concern for the Swans as they are looking for a young manager with potential.

Ian Holloway

Ian Holloway is having his name mentioned by the BBC in the Swansea conversation and he would certainly love to return to the Premier League.

Premier League fans would also love to see the always outspoken Blackpool manager back in the top flight as he was quite the quote machine during the 2010-11 season.

Holloway took Blackpool to the Championship playoffs this season but did not secure promotion back to the Premier League.

If Holloway were appointed boss at the Liberty Stadium, he could bring along a few players from Bloomfield Road that have Premier League experience as well.

Gus Poyet

Yet another managerial opening and yet another connection to Brighton boss Gus Poyet (via the Daily Mail).

Poyet has been with the Championship club since 2009 and has brought them from League One to 10th place in the second flight this season.

If appointed, it would be a return to the Premier League for the 44-year-old Uruguayan, as he played at Chelsea and Spurs as well worked as an assistant at Spurs for three seasons.

Poyet also would bring in a similar style of play that Swansea were used to under Rodgers, which could be a plus for Poyet when he is being considered by the club.

Michael Laudrup

And here is your out-of-the-box, longshot choice for the Swansea job: former Danish international Michael Laudrup.

Laudrup was mentioned briefly in the BBC report that mentioned the possible job candidates.

Most recently, Laudrup was in charge of Mallorca in La Liga, but he resigned from that post when his assistant was fired in September.

Chris Hughton

Chris Hughton was briefly mentioned in the BBC report on the Swansea job.

The Birmingham City boss has been linked with the West Brom job as well since the end of the Premier League season, but he still has not received an offer for that job either.

As for now, it looks like Hughton will have to stay in the Championship with Birmingham and will look to earn a promotion to the top flight with them next season.
