Friday Tweetbag: A Look into the Future of the AFC South

Nate DunlevyJun 3, 2018

Welcome to the Friday Tweetbag! As always, you can tweet, email or send your questions to me in the comments section of the articles. Be sure to use the hashtag #tweetbag!

Q:

A: I believe you are referring to this gem by Matt Williamson. The real issue here is that he attempts this assignment (which was no doubt forced upon him by an idiot editor somewhere) without taking into account any college players.

What's wrong with that? Well, trying to project running backs four seasons into the future and not considering guys in college is a fool's game.

Of the top 10 leading rushers in the NFL last year, three of them (Foster, McCoy, Matthews) weren't in the league four years ago. That's two of the five leading rushers in the NFL. Trying to guess who will be good four years from now is hard enough if you include college players. If you exclude them, you have no chance to predict the best and brightest.

Q:

A: That's a great question. It all comes down to the quarterbacks. If the question is who will be the best team in 2014, I believe it will probably be Indianapolis followed by Tennessee. The reasoning is simple: they have the best young quarterbacks.

Because I don't believe in Gabbert, I expect the Jaguars to have to reload. I think the Texans will end up re-upping Schaub, but I don't know if we can trust his health long term.

That means the question will be who will be the better quarterback: Locker or Luck?

By 2014, we should have a clearer picture, but I have to think most of the football world would take Luck over Locker right now. Because of that, I will too.

Q:

A: Unfortunately, we just don't know what Ijalana's health situation is. I'd still like to see him get a shot at tackle, but that doesn't seem to be in the cards. He was a project coming out of the draft, and didn't get any time to project, so to speak.

I think he's probably fated to guard for at least this season, unless injuries force a change of plans.

As for Reitz, my buddy Kyle Rodriguez had some nice thoughts about him this week. We'll see how it shakes out, but I agree he has a puncher's chance of grabbing a starting spot.

Q:

A: This is going to come down to personnel. Yes, the Colts have Josh Chapman to play a true nose position, but does anyone know if he'll be healthy enough to last all season?

Let's assume for a moment that Dwight Freeney is on the roster. There will be some degree to which it doesn't matter what you call the base defense. Freeney will be rushing the passer most of the time.

No team runs a true 3-4 all the time. The Ravens used lots of formations, but so did many teams. I think we'll get a better answer to this once we see how the final roster shakes out in training camp. It's going to take Indianapolis two offseasons to fully turn over the roster. For the time being, I expect the defense to be vaguely familiar with new wrinkles added in as the roster allows.

Q:

A: This was a tough one. I had to get some help from the NFLPA for the answer. The Titans have an unusual setup. Matt Hasselbeck is serving as the rep for the Titans because he is on the NFLPA Executive Committee.

According to the NFLPA, "Elections for rep and alternate will take place toward the beginning of the regular season."
