USC Football Recruiting: Is Su'a Cravens 'in the Bag' for the Trojans?
In what can only be described as a memorable start to USC's 2013 recruiting class, the next domino expected to fall is Murietta, Calif., safety Su'a Cravens.
Cravens, a Scout.com 5-star safety, has said that he will announce his decision to attend college at either Michigan, Ohio State, UCLA, Nebraska or odds-on favorite USC on June 6 (his mother's birthday).
Rated No. 1 at his position, Cravens also has the versatility to play several positions, including running back, cornerback, receiver and special teams returner.
However, his ability at safety, with the imminent departure of T.J. McDonald at the end of the year and depth issues becoming apparent in the future, makes Craven very valuable to the Trojans in the defensive backfield.
ESPN rates Cravens only a 4-star, but lists him as their No. 15 overall player in their rankings.
But what about young Su'a's likelihood of giving the Trojans that all-important verbal? How likely is it that, in about a week, Cravens dons a cap sporting the cardinal and gold?
According to various reports, very likely indeed.
As Garry Paskweitz of ESPN reports, there was some concern when Cravens announced that he would visit both Ohio State and Michigan before making a decision. He has since cancelled those plans, but will still honor the June 6 date to make his announcement.
This bodes very well for the Trojans indeed.
In fact, Scout.com's national recruiting coordinator, Greg Biggins, said he would be shocked if Cravens commits to play for anyone else.
If the people that get paid to know these things are correct, it will add to an incredible class (assuming they all sign their letters of intent) that the Trojans have already assembled for 2013.
The addition of Su'a Cravens builds a Trojan class that is already head and shoulders above everyone else in terms of per player ratings.
Only time will tell if Cravens will pull the trigger for the Trojans.
But the gun is already cocked and will be fired in a week.
Now USC will have to wait and see if Cravens is firing at them.
