SEC Football Top 150 Players: No. 92, Dustin Harris, Texas A&M DB/KR
The SEC Blog will be counting down the top 150 players in the SEC every day, concluding on Aug. 30, at the start of the college football regular season.
92. Dustin Harris, No. 22, Texas A&M Defensive Back/Kick Returner
2011 stats: 33 tackles; two tackles for loss; two sacks; one interception; eight pass breakups; 18 punt returns, for 335 yards and one touchdown; 16 kickoff returns, for 374 yards
Strengths
Harris' impact can be felt on defense and special teams. He has received honorable mention All-Big 12 honors in each of the last two seasons.
He returns as the nation's top punt returner, after posting an 18.9 yard per return average in 2011.
He has six career interceptions and should make an impact in the Aggie defensive backfield as a senior.
Weaknesses
The new kickoff rules should minimize his impact as a kickoff returner, but he should get plenty of time in the secondary. He's the most experienced cornerback on the Aggie roster and has to step up and be a leader in 2012, even though he's still battling for his spot atop the depth chart.
2012 Prediction
Harris will have a big impact on Texas A&M's defense and special teams in 2012.
With a new staff and a new conference, senior leadership will be very important on the defensive side of the ball for the Aggies.
The SEC is a field-position conference, and Harris' ability in the return game—particularly on punt returns—could force some of those breaks that A&M is going to need to be successful in 2012.
