Terrell Owens: Sense of Entitlement Leaves Former NFL Star at Rock Bottom

Josh MartinJun 7, 2018

Terrell Owens' massive ego remains undefeated in its hindrance of his football career, NFL or otherwise.

According to Tim McMahon of ESPNDallas.com, Owens was cut by the Allen Wranglers of the Indoor Football League on Wednesday. The six-time Pro Bowler and five-time All-Pro failed to report for a scheduled appearance at a local children's hospital and refused to partake in a pair of upcoming road games—the results of which will likely determine whether or not the team makes the playoffs.

Owens' ouster by owner Jon Frankel leaves him without the six-figure salary and the stake in the team included in the contract which super agent Drew Rosenhaus negotiated for him back in February. He's since been dropped from it for breaching.

"Our fans are amongst the best in the league, and it is impossible to maintain a player when even our fans notice and comment on a player's lack of effort both on and off the field. We need to do what is best for this team, our fans and this community."

Of course, rumblings about Owens' effort (or lack thereof) and his poor rapport with ownership and fans are nothing new and should come as no surprise. The 38-year-old future Hall-of-Famer had something of a penchant for pestilence during his stints with the San Francisco 49ers, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys. The latter released him just one year into a four-year, $34-million extension.

He appeared to be on better behavior during one-year stopovers with the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals.

His career take a turn for the worse when he tore his ACL after the 2010 season, before what would've been his return to free agency.

He had hoped to use his time with the Wranglers to prove that he's healthy again, that he can still play at a high level, and that he's worth the headache and (minor) risk of an NFL team taking a flier on him.

Yet, the only thing T.O. proved this time around is that he's the same knucklehead he's always been.

And, really, what NFL franchise in its collective right mind would bother to waste a precious roster spot on a washed-up diva who's about sixth months out from his 39th birthday?

T.O. made his proverbial bed long ago, soaking up the spotlight off the field as much as on it.

Now, he gets to lay in it—jobless, near broke and scrambling for employment—however comfortable (or uncomfortable) it may be.
