MLB Betting Odds: Kansas City Royals vs. Cleveland Indians, May 29 Preview

Jeff GrantJun 7, 2018

The Kansas City Royals (19-28) and Cleveland Indians (27-21) will continue a three-game American League Central series on Tuesday night at Progressive Field, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 ET

The Indians were established as minus-155 home favorites in the MLB betting odds, while the total has held steady at its opening number of 8.5.

Kansas City has displayed some power in homering in seven straight games, but has managed to go 3-4 over that span. The Royals are still dangerous in this spot, posting a 5-1 mark as a road underdog of plus-125 to plus-150 this season, with the "under" going 4-2 in those contests.

Will Smith (0-1, 13.50 ERA) is set to make his second career MLB start, coming off an 8-3 road setback against the New York Yankees in his debut on May 23, giving up five runs and six hits over 3.1 innings of work.

The right-hander led the Texas League in wins and innings during the 2011 campaign, finishing with a 13-9 record and 3.85 ERA, including a 9-3 mark and 3.18 ERA over his final 14 appearances.

The Royals are 5-11 in their last 16 games in Cleveland, while the "over" is 6-2 in the last eight games in this series overall.

Cleveland is well on its way to winning a ninth consecutive season series against Kansas City, winning five of the first seven meetings in 2012. The Indians are 14-10 against divisional foes this year, while the "over" is 14-8 in that situation.

Indians starting pitcher Justin Masterson (2-3, 4.62 ERA) has watched the club drop three of his last four outings, as the offense has provided him just eight runs of support over that span. He did manage to tally a 2-1 home win over the Detroit Tigers last time out, despite issuing five free passes.

The right-hander has registered an even 1-1 record and 2.40 ERA in six home outings, handing out 20 free passes and striking out 29 in 41.1 combined frames. The 27-year-old ranks 16th in the AL among starting pitchers in home ERA.

In 15 career games (10 starts) versus the Royals, Masterson has gone 4-3 with a 3.94 ERA, including a 3-1 mark and 3.48 ERA in five outings a year ago.

The Indians are 16-7 in Masterson's last 23 starts as a favorite, while they've also managed to win their last eight games against teams with a losing record overall.

Umpire Hunter Wendelstedt may also provide an advantage for the home team, considering Masterson has won both of his career starts with him behind home plate. The "under" is 7-2 in his nine assignments this year.

Weather forecasts suggest partly cloudy skies and game-time temperatures in the upper-70s, with a 5-10 mph breeze out of the west.
