Duke's Future After the Clemson Upset: Choose Your Own Adventure

Justin McTeerFeb 5, 2009

To say Duke's loss to Clemson was staggering is an understatement. It was embarrassing, demoralizing, and humiliating.

It could turn out to be a motivator for Duke, which looked poised for a Final Four run just two weeks ago, but that depends on what happens next.

In true "Choose Your Own Adventure" style, you decide what happens next:

1. Duke loses confidence and fizzles out down the stretch.

Jon Scheyer can't find his form and Kyle Singler continues to struggle. Gerald Henderson's wrist bothers him after tweaking it on a block attempt and his production trails off. Duke loses at least five more games before March and doesn't survive the first weekend of the tournament.

2. Duke shakes things up in the starting lineup and regains success.

Scheyer returns to the bench and Greg Paulus moves to the point guard spot, moving Smith to the starting shooting guard.

Lance Thomas and Miles Plumlee take over the majority of the minutes at the post. The changes create a spark, and the Devils remain a legitimate contender for the ACC title.

3. Despite changing the starting lineup, it's a case of "too little, too late" for the Blue Devils.

They continue to struggle and finish in the middle of the pack in the ACC before flaming out in early March.

4. The loss to Clemson is a huge wake-up call for the Blue Devils, who surge through the remainder of the season.

They use the pain as motivation to crush every team that they play and successfully win the ACC regular season title outright. They make it to the ACC tournament finals and go further than the Sweet 16 in March.

It's up to you! Choose wisely (and brag about it later if you're right)!
