Chelsea Transfer News: Walcott, Van Der Wiel and More Stars Linked to Blues

Nicholas GossJun 5, 2018

Even though Chelsea have already made a major signing in the transfer market by bringing Eden Hazard of Lille to Stamford Bridge this week, don't expect the London club to stop signing young players before next season.

The club has several positions that still need more depth, and over the next few years, certain positions will need major improvements.

Let's look at three stars recently linked to the Blues.

Theo Walcott

With Arsenal star Theo Walcott not having a long-term contract, Chelsea may be interested in signing the winger, according to the London Evening Standard.

"

Arsenal will hold talks with midfielder Theo Walcott after Euro 2012 amid reports that Roman Abramovich has lined him up as his next big Chelsea signing.

"

After signing Hazard, Chelsea doesn't need any more players on the left side of the pitch. Walcott would give Chelsea some nice versatility with his ability to play both centrally and on the right side of the attack.

I would expect Arsenal to re-sign him, but Chelsea would be wise to target Walcott should he become available.

Gregory Van der Wiel

The Dutch right back is one of the better young defenders in Europe, and sooner or later, Chelsea will need to strengthen their defense.

Per the Telegraph:

"

Paulo Ferreira has also been told he can leave with Chelsea aiming to sign a new right-back.

They have again been offered Ajax defender Gregory Van der Wiel, who was a target of former sporting director Frank Arnesen.

"

Van der Wiel isn't going to be a shut-down defender like Brazilian right back Maicon used to be, but he will be a threat going forward with his impressive pace down the right side of the pitch.

The Ajax star would be a strong addition to the Chelsea defensive corps.

Hulk

Chelsea and FC Porto star Hulk have been linked for some time, and his agent Teodora Fonseca recently told the Daily Mail:

"

'For sure Hulk will only leave Porto for a big club and a big league and I can say that we like the Premier League a lot.  'At the moment, Chelsea is a club which is more interesting than ever, because they’ve become European champions and are without doubt one of the biggest in Europe.

"

Hulk is certainly a talented player but there are more pressing needs on the Chelsea squad right now. Even though the loss of Didier Drogba will hurt, Spanish striker Fernando Torres must be given a chance to be "the man" and prove that he can shine at Stamford Bridge like he did at Anfield.

The Blues would be wise to not sign Hulk right now.
