WWE Rumors: Chris Jericho, CM Punk, John Cena and Tuesday's Top WWE News

Adam WellsJun 7, 2018

WWE appears to be in ratings-chasing mode right now. That's the only logical explanation for putting CM Punk in a WWE Championship Match against Kane—who continues to be put in high-profile matches despite no evidence anyone really wants to see him—on SmackDown.

While that match may be somewhat baffling, at least the new stipulation for John Cena vs. Big Show at No Way Out makes sense. It is probably early in that feud to be doing a cage match, but who needs to build to a proper match anymore?

It is always interesting to see the things WWE tries on a week-to-week basis. Things don't always work when you book that way, though from time to time something clicks. That's what WWE needs to hang its hat on.

In the meantime, here are some news and links to keep you entertained until the SmackDown tapings on Tuesday night.

CHRIS JERICHO IS "DONE" WITH WWE

You have to love the things Jericho says on Twitter. He eggs people on for their ignorance, and is going to speak his mind whenever he wants. Here is what he said when asked what he would be doing when he returned.

"

Haha! Why bother ?? Im done RT @IAmSteakSlice @IAmJericho Have you been thinking of a story line for after your suspension??

— Chris Jericho (@IAmJericho) May 28, 2012"

Question on Everybody's Mind: Can Jericho ever leave WWE?

Our Take: He may leave from time to time, but there is no way he doesn't remain associated with the company forever. You can tell just by his Twitter page that he loves to antagonize people. It's really fun to read, too.

Hype Meter: 5 out of 5 Undisputed Champions

WWE likely felt a lot of pressure from the Brazilian government to do something to Jericho, but it is too bad he won't be around for the next month. Then again, maybe he will find some new way to reinvent himself.

THE REVOLUTION WILL BE DIGITIZED

WWE took a bold step with the new WWE '13 video game that will be released later on this year. Not only will CM Punk be the cover athlete—a nice show of faith in the WWE champion—but the Attitude Era appears to be prominent in the development process.

Question on Everybody's Mind: How in-depth will the Attitude Era mode go?

Our Take: If that is, in fact, the way THQ goes with this game, it would likely be a toned-down version. It's hard to see WWE letting blood be present in the game, though that would be very cool to see.

Hype Meter: 5 out of 5 Old-School Eras

As a true testament to the Attitude Era, THQ should bring in Vince Russo to write the script for the game. If you love gimmicks, bad booking and long talking segments that go nowhere, he is the man for your video game.

JOHN CENA HEADING TO SMACKDOWN

With Chris Jericho being taken off the road for the flag Incident, John Cena is going to be getting more work put on his plate. The superstar has been added to SmackDown tapings for the next two weeks as a way to increase ticket sales.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Will WWE's master plan work?

Our Take: Given that SmackDown is treated like the "other" child for the company—which isn't necessarily a bad thing, since Vince McMahon doesn't feel the pressure to rewrite and micromanage everything—it probably won't hurt things.

Hype Meter: 4 out of 5 Cenation T-Shirts

Here is yet another sign that WWE has all but given up on trying to make any new stars. Even if ticket sales for one brand aren't what WWE wants, it could afford to take a step back and let some new stars shine. Instead, the world gets a double-dose of Cena on television.

WWE SIGNS A NEW STAR

With the WWE Developmental System looking for an overhaul in talent, the news that the company has signed Steve Evans to a contract should be taken as good news. Of course, since he is a typical "big man," perhaps the news isn't all that good.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Will WWE end up using Evans?

Our Take: I will say, the best thing he has going for him is the fact that he is English. That gives him an appeal and the ability to sell at least some tickets and generate revenue overseas, which is a big deal for WWE. Plus, he has the kind of body they like, so he could be a fixture on TV.

Hype Meter: 3 out of 5 New Stars

Expectations should always be tempered when WWE signs a new star, simply because we have seen so many talented performers brought up before they were ready and the crowd instantly turned against them. I don't know how good Evans is, but there shouldn't be any rush to get him up just because he is big.
