Big Ten Brawl Video: Watch Purdue and Indiana Fight During Championship Game
Fight, fight, fight.
Purdue and Indiana met in a Championship battle, and then they decided to get on down and do it for real.
You have to love the school spirit.
We are coming off a great weekend of college baseball from a memorable highlights perspective. You had Vanderbilt pulling off a rare triple steal during the SEC tournament, and now this.
This video of hardball angst comes from the Big Ten championship game, and it makes me smile. You have to love one of the last remaining sports that allows guys to get after it with minimal reprimands after.
If this were the NBA, you would be looking at suspensions and people acting like the sport was somehow being disgraced.
This being hard-nosed baseball, it's seen as a lovely highlight.
A USA Today report catches us up to speed on what went down. Essentially, Purdue's second baseman Eric Charles bowled into Indiana shortstop Michael Basil in the ninth inning.
Basil took exception to the non-slide and went after Charles. That's when all hell broke loose and the benches cleared.
Charles was ejected for his slide, as was Indiana's Dustin DeMuth. The report issues that suspensions may very well be forthcoming, but I say kids will be kids.
What do you think? Was that hard slide deserving of some physical reprimand? I say don't block the base if you can't take the heat on the other end.
Purdue ended up winning that game 6-5, giving them their first first Big Ten tournament title. They also won their first regular-season conference championship since 1909.
