UFC 146 Fight Card: What Frank Mir Needs to Do to Defeat Junior dos Santos

Tim McTiernanMay 26, 2012

In a few hours, Junior dos Santos squares off with Frank Mir with the heavyweight title on the line in the main event of UFC 146.

JDS is a heavy favorite going into the fight, leaving Mir as much as a +425 underdog.

However, Mir does have his ways that he can win the fight, and he will need to capitalize when he sees opportunity.

Mir has openly stated he will pull guard against Dos Santos, and that could be his best chance of possibly winning.

If the fight hits the ground, Mir is easily favored to earn the submission victory. Whether he pulls guard, or is outright able to take JDS down, if it goes to the ground, almost everyone expects Mir to win.

Additionally, Mir will have to avoid the hands of Dos Santos, and that should be no surprise. Mir doesn't exactly have an iron chin, and JDS throws heavy leather.

If Mir can get the fight to the ground, he should be able to beat Dos Santos, but he has to survive the first round, and capitalize when he gets the fight to the ground because it may not happen more than once.
