Lakers Vs. Celtics: Clash Of The Titans
Remember the movie "Poltergeist," when the father found his daughter staring at the snow that appears on the TV screen when there is no signal. She turns around and says : "They're baacckk!!"
Well, ladies and gentleman, the Lakers are back to try and break another Celtic winning streak in the same NBA season. This time the media will probably put an asterisk on the win because Andrew Bynum will not be playing.
Now it is as it is supposed to be. On Thursday the Celtics will face the same team sans Bynum that they beat in the 2008 NBA Finals. So we can all take umbrage in that this will be the Lakers true test of intestinal fortitude.
This is the Lakers' opportunity to actually get inside of the Champs psyche. Let me tell you it will be tough. 2 years ago the GAH-Den faithful were speaking blasphemy when gang green was down and out. Chants of "Kobe! Kobe!" emanated through the garden corridors, the shame of it all.
Now he comes riding into town on his purple and gold steed to claim what we have. The Lakers are currently tied with Cleveland at 38-9, the C's are on top with a 41-9 record.
The Lakers field goal percentage stand at 47%, while their opponents shoot 44%. Boston shoots it at 48%, while holding their opponents to 42% shooting.
LA is an offensive juggernaut, they simply outscore their opponents. Boston does it with defense, and the theory is defense wins championship. LA has another opportunity to prove that they have the mettle.
This is must see TV folks. Cedric Maxwell will be quacking all over WEEI sports radio and Tommy Heinsohn will be raining 'home town' commentaries over the air waves.
No more man crushes in Boston for Kobe; he will hear the deafening roar of "BEAT LA!!" as he walks out of the GAH-DEN in defeat on Thursday.
