Eden Hazard: Star's Decision Will Shift Balance of Power in Premier League

Tim DanielsJun 7, 2018

Eden Hazard now holds all the power.

Premier League powerhouses Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea have all made their final offers to the rising star. He must now decide which one to accept, according to Mark Ogden of the Daily Telegraph.

Hazard, who quickly became one of the most coveted players on the transfer market after making it clear he was prepared to leave Lille, will make the call around June 2, based on the report, after fulfilling international team duties with Belgium.

Ogden also reports Chelsea should be considered the favorites due to the team's willingness to meet his high salary demands. That said, all three squads have submitted packages for him to review over the next few weeks.

The only guarantee is that his decision will shift the balance of power in the EPL. Hazard will provide an enormous boost to the offensive attack of whatever team he joins. He scored 22 goals and added 16 assists in 48 games with Lille this season.

That's impressive for a 21-year-old winger who still has plenty of time to improve. Playing with more talented teammates will also help his cause since it should give him more space to work his magic. Some have compared him to a young Lionel Messi.

He has terrific speed to blow by defenders, but has also improved the technical side of his game to make himself more dangerous when facing elite back lines. That constant desire to get better is what makes him such an intriguing player to some of the world's top clubs.

Manchester City just finished off a thrilling run to the league championship, which included two goals in stoppage time in the final game to secure the title. Adding him to an already deep roster would make City's attack nearly unstoppable.

Knowing that, Manchester United would have been crazy not to at least make a run at him as well. Wayne Rooney leads the way for the Red Devils, but they lack scoring depth behind him due to some inconsistency from younger players.

Hazard would give the Red Devils a second elite offensive weapon as they attempt to get back to the top of the league.

With wily veteran Didier Drogba out of the picture, Chelsea definitely needs somebody to take control of the attack, especially in big games when Drogba usually played his best.

That's probably why the Blues felt the need to make a big offer. They understand Fernando Torres and Daniel Sturridge are both streaky players, so a player like Hazard would really give them the extra boost they need up front.

The next few weeks will likely feel like an eternity for all three teams as they await word from Hazard. His decision will have a major impact on the EPL's power structure for years to come.
