WWE Over the Limit 2012 Results: The Miz and Superstars Who Were Buried Most

Mike ChiariMay 22, 2012

In essentially every WWE match there is a winner and a loser, but there are ways to make a wrestler look good in defeat. The WWE certainly took care of the likes of Daniel Bryan, Randy Orton, Chris Jericho, Alberto Del Rio and John Cena despite their losses at Over the Limit, but others weren't so lucky.

Sometimes in the name of making the winner look extra strong, a competitor is forced to pay the price by essentially jobbing to his opponent. There was no shortage of that at Over the Limit, and while it made sense in some instances, it was quite damaging in others and could have easily been avoided.

Here are three superstars who were buried most at Sunday's pay-per-view and will suffer the most because of it.

The Miz

Ever since he lost the WWE Championship to John Cena a year ago, The Miz has been in steady decline. He had a short stint in the main-event scene when he teamed with R-Truth against the teams of Cena and The Rock as well as CM Punk and Triple H, but he has largely been a forgotten man as a singles competitor. He may not be the best in-ring worker in the company, but he is great on the mic and is oozing with charisma, so he belongs in the world title picture.

Miz has been jobbing to Brodus Clay quite a bit lately, and he did it again at Over the Limit. Miz actually looked somewhat strong in the opening battle royal as he lasted until the final two before being eliminated by Christian. However, the loss to the Funkasaurus canceled that out. Not only did Miz lose in quick fashion, but he was humiliated by being forced to dance as well. Miz is scheduled to do some filming for The Marine 3 soon, so hopefully he'll return with a vengeance and cancel out this rough patch.

Cody Rhodes

It looked like Cody Rhodes was going to have a night off as Christian originally decided to challenge for Santino's United States Championship after winning the battle royal on Sunday. However, when he heard Rhodes trash talking him in the back, Christian chose to go after the Intercontinental Championship instead. That change of heart pretty much cemented a sudden face turn for Christian, and it became clear that he would beat Rhodes. That was the case as Christian is now the new Intercontinental Champion, and Rhodes is left in flux.

Rhodes posted on Twitter that he would be taking time off, so the loss obviously had something to do with that. Even if his tweet is true, though, it still made him look weak. Rhodes was one of the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champions in recent history, but his loss to Big Show at WrestleMania started his downfall. He recaptured the belt at Extreme Rules, but it was a fluke win in a tables match. He proceeded to lose a match to Santino before dropping the title to Christian. Rhodes hasn't been used properly as of late, so some time off should do him well.

Zack Ryder

Zack Ryder's massive push has been single-handedly railroaded by Kane, and that continued at Over the Limit when the Big Red Monster beat Long Island Iced Z yet again in the YouTube pre-show match. Thanks to Ryder's YouTube show he was able to rise to surprising heights as he captured the United States Championship, but he was an unfortunate member of the feud involving Cena, Kane and Eve. Ryder was attacked by Kane on a weekly basis and ended up losing his title to Jack Swagger.

With neither Ryder nor Kane doing anything of consequence at the moment, Sunday seemed like a good time to get Ryder back on track by giving him a victory over his tormenter. Ryder was squashed yet again, though, and is nearly in the same spot as he was before his push. The extent of Ryder's success currently is winning on Superstars, and that certainly isn't cutting it for his fans. Ryder is back at the bottom of the food chain after all his hard work, and the loss to Kane confirms that.
