Pacquiao vs. Bradley: Why Pac-Man Will Reinvigorate His Career Against Bradley
While some are predicting a difficult road for Manny Pacquiao when he faces the undefeated Timothy Bradley on June 9, I think that fight will actually serve to reinvigorate Pacquiao's career.
Many thought they saw the beginning of the end of the Pac-Man's dominance during his majority decision win over Juan Manuel Marquez back in November. The world's top pound-for-pound fighter did show a ton of weaknesses that night, but since that bout he has changed a number of things in his personal life to refocus himself on boxing.
In fact, it has been revealed that Pacquiao's wife, Jinkee, served him with divorce papers the night before his fight with Marquez, according to the Los Angeles Times. Obviously that was a huge distraction and completely derailed what had been an outstanding training camp.
Since then, Pacquiao has rededicated himself to his wife and his religion, cutting out the many vices that have always surrounded his life. He was always an avid pool player and enjoyed late-nights out with his entourage, which trainer Freddie Roach claims always included girls, according to the Los Angeles Times.
On a conference call this week, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum claimed that change is evident in his prized boxer. He said that Pacquiao no longer looks tired or run-down like he used to during his hard-partying days, according to The Desert Sun.
Don't get me wrong, Bradley is a heck of a fighter and will pose problems for Pacquiao. Desert Storm is aggressive, quick and an incredibly smart fighter in the ring. He is 28-0 for a reason and has always found a way to win. Bradley has also shown improvement in all of his recent fights.
But for Bradley, facing a guy like Pacquiao will be an incredible step up in competition, especially if the Filipino fighter is focused and has rededicated himself to the sport. The Pac-Man seems like he has something to prove in this fight and that could spell awful things for Bradley.
Manny Pacquiao has long been the best fighter in the world while leading a life with a ton of distractions. By limiting those outside forces and refocusing himself in the ring, he could reinvigorate his career and re-establish his dominance.
Facing Bradley will be a challenge but one Pacquiao is more than capable of overcoming.
