Eden Hazard: Former Lille Star Should Stay Away from Manchester City
After promising a decision on Sunday night and not following through, it appears that former Lille star Eden Hazard is having a hard time deciding where he wants to play football next year.
Most recently, the 21-year-old Belgian star has been linked to Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea. While this obviously isn't an easy decision for a young player like Hazard to make, he'd be wise to go anywhere but Manchester City.
City doesn't have as strong of a tradition as Chelsea and United do, meaning that the appeal that Hazard garners once he arrives won't be as great as it would be if he winds up with one of the other two clubs. On top of that, Manchester City coach Roberto Mancini is known for his loud personality and his propensity to challenge disgruntled top players. That will be a huge problem for the young Hazard, as he has been known to have some attitude issues.
In a game against Turkey last June, Hazard walked out on his team after being subbed off. He finished the game at a burger stall outside the stadium. Mancini obviously isn't going to stand for that and Hazard would be wise to notice that if the club recalls John Guidetti and Vladimir Weiss, there will be three new divas on the squad. Let's not forget Mario Balotelli still may resort to his old tricks at any moment.
Should Hazard join City, he would immediately become the team's best player. I'm not so sure that role is the best thing for a 21-year-old kid in a new league.
Didier Drogba is reportedly leaving Chelsea for destinations unknown. That means that Hazard could sign with the Blues and immediately become the face of the organization along with Frank Lampard. He could endear himself in the hearts of Chelsea faithful from the beginning and make a legend out of himself for the next decade or longer.
Also, Hazard knows that he will get first-team minutes right away now that Drogba is on the outs. Hazard has the ability to step up and play forward if need be and has excelled at the position in the past. He must not forget that Chelsea just won the Champions League down four men due to suspension. If they beat Bayern Munich shorthanded, just imagine what they would do to the rest of the league with Hazard on the team.
As for Manchester United, their tradition and fan base cannot be matched by any club worldwide. If Hazard were to sign with United, he'd become an instant celebrity all over Europe and the globe. Signing with Manchester United comes with a guarantee to play for the Premier League title year in and year out, as well as a chance to play for Sir Alex Ferguson, one of the best managers in recent memory.
Even if Manchester City can somehow offer Hazard more money than the other two clubs, he would be wise to make a small financial sacrifice to go from a star to a legend.
