Bayern Munich vs. Chelsea Start Time: Why German Club Will Lift European Cup

Nicholas GossJun 6, 2018

Bayern Munich will defeat Chelsea in the 2012 Champions League Final with a strong attack and world class goalkeeping to capture their fifth European crown in club history.

Both squads will be without key players on Saturday, but Chelsea's absences will have a greater affect since the heart and soul of the club, John Terry, is suspended for the final because of a red card received in the semifinal against Barcelona.

Let's look at three reasons why Munich will take home the title.

Strength on the Wings

Munich's major advantage over Chelsea on the wings will help the German club create goal scoring opportunities throughout the match.

Arjen Robben is one of the most dangerous goal scorers in the world because he can shoot and score from great distances, so you must always make sure he doesn't have too much time and space around him.

Franck Ribery will be on the other wing and will find it easy to play 1v1 against the Chelsea defenders that oppose him. The Frenchman is a strong Champions League performer and has lots of experience in big-time matches, including a World Cup final.

Chelsea's back four must be well positioned all game because they can't afford to mess up an offside trap and allow Robben and Ribery to run towards goal with their blazing speed.

Incredible Goalkeeper

Manuel Neuer is arguably the best goalkeeper in the world and is quite difficult to beat anywhere on the field.

If this match goes to penalties, Neuer will give Munich the advantage. His performance in the penalty shootout that decided the semifinal fixture against Real Madrid was really impressive. The German star stopped penalty attempts from Madrid stars Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Neuer isn't a much better goalkeeper than Chelsea's Petr Cech, but he does give a Munich defense without some key players a reliable presence at the back.

Home Match for Munich

Playing the Champions League final in your home stadium is quite rare, but Munich will have that opportunity on Saturday at the Allianz Arena.

Having this advantage will give the Munich players more energy than Chelsea, especially late in the match if the Munich players need to find more strength in a close game.

Since Munich's fans will dominate the crowd, Chelsea have to score first and take the crowd out of the game. If Munich score first and ignite their passionate fans, it could be a long night for the Blues.
