Bayern Munich vs. Chelsea: German Club Has Too Much Firepower for Blues to Stop

Nicholas GossJun 7, 2018

Bayern Munich's attacking firepower will be too much for a Chelsea defense without captain John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic to stop in Saturday's Champions League Final at the Allianz Arena.

The German side has attacking strength at striker, in the midfield, and on the wings. The Blues defense will need to be near perfect to stop the Bavarian club.

At striker, Bayern Munich has two fantastic goal scorers in Mario Gomez and Thomas Muller. Gomez is a strong and powerful player, while Muller has more pace and is a better dribbler. Muller doesn't start, but he's a very dangerous attacking option off the Munich bench.

In the midfield, Bastian Schweinsteiger will serve as the conductor of the Munich attack. His ability to set up scoring chances with his playmaking skills is world class. He also can score goals himself when he's aggressive going forward.

Toni Kroos adds some of the same skills to the Munich midfield, and he is the perfect pairing for Schweinsteiger.

The wings are where Munich will really hurt Chelsea on Saturday. Frenchman Franck Ribery and Dutchman Arjen Robben are world-class stars who are some of the finest attacking players in the world.

Ribery can score consistently with his ability to finish accurately in front of goal and has impressive acceleration on the attack. Robben has the best left foot in the world from long range. His ability to pick the top corner from 30 yards is extraordinary, which means the Blues will have to close him down quickly.

Without the strength of Terry and Ivanovic in the center of the Chelsea defense, Gomez could have a great day on Saturday. Gary Cahill and David Luiz don't have the strength or defensive ability to contain the Munich defense for 90 minutes.

Ashley Cole is a strong defender, but he's not as good as he used to be, either. He will start at left back, and will probably find himself defending Robben quite a bit. This matchup isn't a terrible one of the Blues.

While both teams are going to be without key defensive players, Munich has more attacking firepower to score goals with.

The Blues cannot win a high-scoring match against the Germans, and this is why Munich will lift the European Cup on Saturday for the fifth time in club history.
