2012 Preakness Entries: Best Long Shots to Pair with Favorites for Bigger Payout
Kentucky Derby winner I'll Have Another and runner-up Bodemeister are currently going off at 5/2 odds for the 137th running of the Preakness Stakes, according to Sportsbook.com—not great odds if you're looking to make a buck.
However, it does signify how dominant the two horses should be in the respect to the rest of the field.
It would be a surprise if neither horse won, so playing either just to win won't offer much in ways of a payout, but hitting an exacta or trifecta with a long shot or two will certainly help there.
Pretension (Currently 25-1)
One of the biggest long shots in the field, Pretension is coming off a win at Pimlico Race Track and provides an interesting play on race day.
A son of Bluegrass Cat, the three-year-old colt has his work cut out for him, but he's proven he can win on this track.
Tiger Walk (Currently 20-1)
The potential-laden son of Tale of the Cat, Tiger Walk hasn't won a race this year. However, all three races have been graded stakes races.
He's finished fourth, fourth and third in the last three respective races and could potentially run into the money here as well.
The three-year-old colt has a solid price, too.
Teeth of the Dog (Currently 15-1)
A rising contender here and another son of Bluegrass Cat, Teeth of the Dog is going to see his price drop come race day.
He's finished in the money in all four of his races and his last outing was a third-place finish at the Wood Memorial, a G1 race.
He's the safest of these horses to play here.
