2012 Preakness Contenders: Teeth of the Dog and More Horses Poised for an Upset
Horse racing is one of the great sports in this world. It embodies the spirit of America because any one horse can come out of nowhere and all of the sudden be a major star by winning a Triple Crown race.
The 2012 Preakness Stakes may be no different, as “no-name” horses that either didn’t compete in the Kentucky Derby or failed to do well in it are littered throughout the small field.
While these colts aren’t as popular as Bodemeister or I’ll Have Another, they certainly could be on Saturday night. (Odds via Sportsbook.ag.)
Teeth of the Dog – 15/1
This great horse has been lightly raced and is refreshed, relaxed and ready to go at Pimlico.
He’s finished in the money each and every one of his four starts and had a respectable third-place outing at Wood Memorial on April 7. He finished behind 2012 Derby runners Gemologist and Alpha.
Teeth of the Dog has not been used since and could make a huge run on Saturday night.
Daddy Nose Best – 15/1
It wasn’t decided until Tuesday that this colt would be allowed by his owners to run in the second leg of the Triple Crown.
He had a decent showing at Churchill Downs and his owners could likely get a big reward for having faith in him to try again at the Preakness.
A win at Pimlico would certainly be a major step up after finishing 10th during the Run for the Roses.
Tiger Walk – 20/1
You may have heard of this horse because of his somewhat-famous owner, Kevin Plank.
Plank is the founder and CEO of Under Armour, a Maryland-based company. He’s won the Breeders' Cup with a long shot and isn’t afraid at all of entering Tiger Walk into the hometown Preakness.
Tiger Walk is already a fan favorite and is in line to become a local legend if he wins it all.
