What Can Be Done with the ECW Championship?

Since its rebirth, so to speak, the ECW championship has been held by many different people. From main eventers like the big show and RVD to mid-card guys like Chave and John Morrison.

One thing that stands out about the title is this, since its creation the new ECW title has never been held by anyone more than once except for Bobby Lashley, who won it from big show and then from Mr. McMahon.

The wwe is using this belt as a stepping stone for competitors to see how they fair in world title matches. But is the fact that no one pursues the title very hard after losing it diminishing its quality?

The only star who comes to mind who has been really trying to get the title is Tommy Dreamer. He has been more of an enhancement talent the past few years. The wwe uses him for heel champions to defend against to give the champ at the time more credibility. What I am curious to see is if Tommy will really retire if he can't win the belt in the next few months.

Basically, it comes down to this. The ECW title has become the new intercontinental championship in the WWE. Guys like Matt Hardy, Swagger, and Morrison have used this title to propel their status in the WWE.

Chavo went from champ to gopher but he has always gotten buried by management for some reason. Lashley was held as equal to the other world champs while he held the title but he blew his chance to be wwe champion.

My hope is that the WWE brings back the ECW tv title for guys like Ricky Ortiz and DJ Gabriel to hold, so there is more than one title on the whole show. Keep in mind, I don't count when Miz and Morrison hold tag belts because they usually get defended on other shows.

The ECW title is not what it used to be, but with the right moves wwe may be able to get the status of thew belt as high as the world heavyweight title someday.
