Bayern Munich vs Chelsea: Didier Drogba Is Key to Blues' Champions League Hopes

Wes ODonnellJun 6, 2018

Didier Drogba has long been the most important scorer for Chelsea.

Even at 34-years-old, the Ivorian is still the biggest weapon the Blues have on their side—even with the likes of Fernando Torres and Daniel Sturridge on the bench.

The veteran goal-scorer will most certainly be in Roberto Di Matteo's starting XI for the UEFA Champions League Final against Bayern Munich on Saturday and he'll be expected to make something happen.

Drogba is no stranger to big moments and has scored goals in four FA Cup finals, including one this year in the dramatic win over Liverpool.

The Blues will also be without club captain John Terry as well as midfielders Ramires and Raul Meireles, and defender Branislav Ivanovic because of suspensions. On top of that, defenders Gary Cahill and David Luiz are battling to get fit.

Chelsea will be super short-handed against a German giant that gets the chance to play in its own home stadium.

Manager Roberto Di Matteo hasn't been in these moments before, but Drogba and a few others have.

The West London outfit will need to lean on the likes of its dependable striker if it is to overcome all these obstacles and win its first ever UEFA Champions League title.

It remains to be seen whom Di Matteo will use in support of the striker. Torres could actually find his way onto the pitch in that spot, but we know that Drogba is going to be key to this game.
