Players Championship 2012 TV Schedule: Kevin Na Won't Fold Under Sunday Pressure

Richard LangfordJun 4, 2018

A person can only put so much pressure on themselves on the golf course, and Kevin Na managed to take himself to the maximum levels of pressure on Saturday at the 2012 Players Championship.

Na entered the day tied for the lead and playing great golf. However, his brain and swing forgot how well he'd been playing. The 28-year-old golfer could not get comfortable when addressing the ball.

He would stand up to it, waggle his club three or four time, back away, re-address and re-waggle. A couple of times, he even started his backswing, only to stop it entirely or swing through well over the top of the ball as an awkward practice swing that looked like a complete whiff.

It was a truly odd and unique sight to behold. But what was even more stunning about the whole situation was that, after he went through this process, he would drill a wonderful shot.

It was amazing.

Here is this guy who is more uncomfortable addressing the ball than almost any player in history, and it didn't stop him from taking a one-stroke lead at one of the most prestigious tournaments on the calendar.

The kicker about all of this is that Na knew he was going through this process with all of the onlookers and TV cameras looking right at him. It is hard to fathom the amount of pressure he felt in those moments.

This pressure had to make his inability to get comfortable worse. Yet there he was, playing brilliant golf.

He is not going to feel any more pressure on Sunday, and he is not going to feel any more uncomfortable in those moments. He already awkwardly found the height of those emotions, and he has managed to thrive.

This will serve him well as he holds tries to hold onto his Sunday lead.
