Serena Williams vs. Victoria Azarenka: Serena Will Snag Madrid Open 2012 Title
Serena Williams will defeat Victoria Azarenka at the 2012 Madrid Open and capture yet another title to add to her illustrious career.
While Serena may not be the completely dominant women's tennis force that she once was, there is no doubting that she's still one of the best in the world. She possesses an incredible combination of speed, strength and skill that makes her near unbeatable when she's at her best, and right now it would be wise to believe that she's at her best.
She easily disposed of her semifinal opponent, Lucie Hradecka, 7-6 (5), 6-0 on her way to the final, and even though Azarenka is looking good as well, this title is Serena's to win.
Azarenka and Williams have met up seven times in the past, and six of those times have ended in Serena's favor. While this is its own match with its own challenges, complexities and storylines, I have to believe that Williams' winning experience over Azarenka is going to give her an edge.
According to the Associated Press via ESPN Tennis, Azarenka naturally disagrees with that statement:
""She's one of the best players in the world and one of the toughest opponents to play against so we'll see," Azarenka said. "But as I said, it's going to be a different story."
"
While Williams may or may not be working on a rapping career, and it may or may not be working (hint: I don't think it's going to work, Serena), there is one thing we know she can do, and that's win big tennis matches.
She boasts a career record of 513 wins compared to just 106 losses and has 40 singles titles under her belt. That, plus the knowledge of how to beat Azarenka should be enough to put her over the edge at the 2012 Madrid Open.
When all is said and done, expect Serena to add one more title to that incredible record.
