SEC Football Top 150 Players: No. 110, Ace Sanders, South Carolina WR
The SEC Blog will be counting down the top 150 players in the SEC every day, concluding on Aug. 30 at the start of the college football regular season.
No. 110: Ace Sanders, No. 1, South Carolina, Wide Receiver
2011 Stats: 29 catches for 383 yards and two touchdowns, four carries for 15 yards, 43 punt returns for 149 yards and one touchdown.
Strengths
Sanders has proven to be a very versatile wide receiver that can make things happen in a variety of ways for the Gamecocks. He's lightning quick, and can take it to the house from anywhere on the field. The ultra-reliable Sanders has played in all 27 games that South Carolina has played during the last two seasons.
Weaknesses
Size. At 5'8", 175 pounds, Sanders doesn't have the size that the typical No. 1 wide receiver has. That's a problem, considering he's South Carolina's leading returning receiver from a year ago. He's a slot guy, and the South Carolina coaching staff tries to anoint him as Alshon Jeffery's replacement, that would be putting a square peg in a round hole.
2012 Prediction
Expect big things from Sanders. The South Carolina receiving corps is a question mark, which means that his veteran leadership will be counted on. The Gamecocks are going be run-first, but that should open things up for Sanders in the passing game and on jet sweeps.
