NBA Power Rankings: Celtics, Lakers Best Again (Jan. 30)

Ethan WeiserJan 30, 2009

With no teams are on a SUPER HOT STREAK, it's time to give a little more respect to the  best teams in the league.

1. Boston - They've won ten in a row. They've got two All-Stars. But people need to just "shut up" about Rajon Rondo being good. He's ok. Still, the Celtics are doing fantastic.

2. LA Lakers - They beat the Magic by having a better record. They are ranked ahead of Cleveland because Andrew Bynum was named Player of the Week, and because they have two All-Stars on their team (Cleveland only has LeBron). They also beat the hottest team in January.

3. Orlando - They beat the Cavs, literally, and in the All-Star race, three players to one.

4. Cleveland - Not the best week for the Cavs, with a loss (that I saw on my new HDTV!) to the Magic, and Mo Williams being left off the All-Star team.

5. San Antonio - What's new? Two All-Stars, an o.k. week, and Tim Duncan still looks as excited as ever (not at all). I can't stand his expressions, I must say.

6. New Orleans - They are still doing well, even with a injured cast, which is good to say. Go CP3. Gotta ask though, is that nickname supposed to relate somehow to C3P0?

7. Denver - Thank goodness Chauncey is doing well, and (one of) my least favorite players, Melo, is not. But the Nuggets as a whole? They are all doing well.

8. Portland - Three straight, and a fifth seed. And Oden gets in the Rookie Game instead of some other more deserving people. Same as everything else in All-Star Weekend.

9. Houston - They're all healthy and Yao is doing well? He even got this honor? That's honestly just weird.

10. Atlanta - How are they still in fourth place in the East when they don't win games?

11. Miami - Should be above the Hawks and the Pistons soon, with DW3 doing well this year. However, their rookie (Michael Beasley) is struggling and the Matrix (Shawn Marion) is not using that nickname anymore, for good reason. Can they try to win a little more though? Please?

12. Philadelphia - I don't understand them. They are now doing well, even though they weren't before. Elton Brand didn't fit in, they improved when he was injured, and now he is back. I just can't follow it anymore. But you can understand an 8-2 record in their last ten games.

13. Detroit - How are they still in fifth place in the East when they don't win games?

14. Dallas - I don't like Dallas, Dirk Nowitzki, but I do like it when they lose a lot, which they are doing a lot recently. Keep it up! Nice work!

15. New York - Now that Milwaukee is "out of the picture", they should be the next in line for the playoffs. Which is weird... (look at players)

16. Milwaukee - Playoffs? Don't talk about playoffs (anymore)! Playoffs? This was the reference.

17. Phoenix - I am a fan of Phoenix. I am not from there and do not live there, but I am a fan. But SHAQ IS NOT AN ALL-STAR!! AGGGH!!!!

18. Utah - Almost the eighth seed in the playoffs, without Boozer. That's not really news, but neither is Utah.

19. Charlotte - I've got nothing to say about Charlotte, so instead, I'll promote this, which was great.

20. Indiana - If they win four more games, they'll be in the playoff hunt, and Danny Granger will have earned it more than him.

21. Minnesota - Losing two in a row isn't bad, considering the teams below them, but it says a lot about the quality of your team when your huge winning streak gets stopped by the first healthy team you've played. Hey! Click Here! It really is important though...

22. New Jersey - Devin Harris is an All-Star, but the Nets have lost three straight, and are 2-8 recently. Not exactly the BEST week...

23. Oklahoma City - The best week they'll have all season deserves the best position they'll have all season.

24. Chicago - ...

25. Toronto - They are the second worst team in the Eastern Conference, and pretty far down in the overall standings. And I put them at No. 12 at the beginning of the season? Can we have TJ Ford back? Please?

26. Golden State - 14 wins? They aren't the worst team in the league, but I remember putting them at No. 20 in the pre-season.

27. LA Clippers - Losing is still expected, but I have stopped betting my car on them losing.

28. Washington - Moving up in the world. I think this is the second week in a row that they aren't in the bottom two. Way to go.

29. Sacramento - If Memphis wasn't SO BAD, they'd be down one.

30. Memphis - Mayo for ROTY? Yuck. If a good player on a bad team can't be an All-Star, then an o.k. player on a HORRIBLE team shouldn't be in the running. And the 11-game losing streak? Speaks for itself.
