Big Ten Football Morning Coffee: Antavian Edison Arrested on Felony Gun Charge

Adam JacobiMay 8, 2012

Rise and shine, friends. Here's what's going down in the Big Ten today.

Purdue wide receiver Antavian Edison was arrested by Fort Myers, Fla. police early Sunday morning on a felony charge of carrying a concealed weapon. Edison is from Fort Myers.

According to the Fort Myers News-Press, Edison was pulled over on a traffic stop by police, and a gun was found in the car. Edison's uncle, Devon Edison, who had a robbery conviction in 2005 and was subsequently charged with firearm possession by a convicted felon, was a passenger in the car.

Purdue has yet to comment or issue any disciplinary action as it continues to investigate.

Michigan State is bringing in a new graduate assistant for the 2012 season. Ordinarily, that wouldn't be worth anybody's time or attention, except that graduate assistant is Andre Rison. Oh yes. Rison is back on campus to complete his degree and fulfill a promise to his parents, and since he's there...why not coach a bit?

Let's recap: Michigan State's head coach is Mark Dantonio, one of the most outwardly staid, dour men in college football. His wide receiving corps was decimated by graduation, and all that's left are the young bucks who need to make a name for themselves.

So, in steps Rison, a former standout receiver with gallons of attitude.

He's just coming from coaching high school football in Flint, and now he's taking classes and in the most subordinate coaching position possible. This needs to be a documentary. Someone get a Kickstarter page going for this already!

Ohio State's offensive line is making a giant leap forward, according to The Columbus Dispatch. Four of five positions are more or less settled, and OSU has plenty of bodies at right tackle, the sole unsettled position. The guys are showing up to 6 a.m. workouts at 5:20, and their fitness profiles are miles away from last year.

Get pumped, Buckeye fans.

Andy Baggot of the Wisconsin State-Journal says Montee Ball's handcuffing and trespassing citation might have been avoidable if coaches had been more proactive in discouraging players and students from attending the Mifflin Street block party where Ball was charged. Expect more intervention 12 months from now.
