WWE Opinion: Should WWE Explain Why John Cena Is out of the Title Picture?

Giulio RomanoMay 7, 2012

John Cena is the jewel in the crown of WWE.

As silly as that may sound, it is true nonetheless. The man has all the accolades of a true legend; it's almost as if he's had an illustrious 30-year career. And he is often the one Superstar whose merchandise sells out.

Yet, for the longest time, John Cena has not participated in any WWE or World Heavyweight championship matches. Having racked up a record 10 WWE championship reigns and two WHC, it is quite normal for company officials to try and write him out for as long as possible.

But after a while, people will start asking questions. It may seem too good to be true for some. His character has been under a lot of scrutiny during the last few years, but he remains a pivotal Superstar—title in hand or not.

Should commentators and website columnists acknowledge his lack of championship opportunities as of late?

Yes, it's true that ever since he stepped out, CM Punk has been able to remain a successful champion. There is a new, interesting set of programs on the way, and they do not involve the leader of Cenation.

Superstars such as Punk, Sheamus and Daniel Bryan have been given a great opportunity to grab the ball and roll with it.

If company officials are in any way preoccupied by the future, they must continue to walk down that road. Giving any sort of reason why Cena is not in title matches can be interpreted very badly, as if he simply must be there every single month.

That wouldn't be natural nor would it be fair for all the others who work hard. Life isn't always fair, you may think, but this isn't some kind of disease. This sort of set programming can be averted.

So what if John Cena is not in the title picture?

This isn't the Hulk Hogan era, when the world revolved around just one guy. After 12 world championships, you have become a megastar and no longer require them to be special.

I believe, in time, he will be inserted once again in a title match, and when that time comes, it will be all normal to talk about it. But that day is not coming today or tomorrow or for the next few months. That is just not where it's going.

One rumor has John Cena fighting The Undertaker at WrestleMania 29. I hope that sticks because it should be a hell of a match. No championship is necessary as The Streak is a more than adequate a prize to gun for.

After Over The Limit, the "face" of the company should (I advise him to do so) take a leave of absence and hit the refresh button.

It is in everyone's best interest—yours, mine and John Cena's.
