WWE News: Dolph Ziggler Debuts New Bodyguard; How This Could Effect His Career

Chris FeatherstoneJun 7, 2018

At this past weekend's WWE Live events, Dolph Ziggler debuted his new bodyguard in his match against John Cena: none other than Mason Ryan.

So, apparently, Mason Ryan is a heel once again.

This proves that the WWE is keeping him around solely for his size. His in-ring work needs significant improvement to be modest, and his charisma is as good as Ben Stein in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Even with him taken off of TV for a while to improve these elements, it was still to no avail.

Physically, the guy is jacked. He has the potential to be a top guy...if most of the WWE Universe didn't enjoy watching a pendulum swing more than him in the ring. As a member of the Nexus, he had a decent spot as the enforcer of the group. When he become a babyface after being off television for a while by turning on Jack Swagger and Dolph Ziggler, he was planned to have a decent push. Reportedly, he even was absent from the Royal Rumble match for the sake of not hurting a renewed push. Of course, we saw how that panned out.

It never happened.

Dolph Ziggler is in desperate need for his career to catapult. He is one of the best workers in the WWE, and he has the size and charisma to easily be a top star for a considerable amount of time. Unfortunately, he keeps hitting a glass ceiling, and he has yet to break through it.

I'm not totally going to throw out the possibility that Mason Ryan being Dolph Ziggler's bodyguard won't work, but I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for it to succeed either.

It also leaves the question of what his current status is with Jack Swagger and Vickie Guerrero. Although Vickie Guerrero being Ziggler's manager seemed to reach a plateau for his career, she is a much greater commodity in the WWE than Mason Ryan.

If we do see this debut on Raw in the near future, one would have to wonder what it would really do to propel Ziggler's career. There was a similar tandem in Tyson Kidd and Jackson Andrews, and we all saw where that went.

I hope it works. Dolph Ziggler deserves to be a top guy. But Mason Ryan? More of a liability than an asset for Ziggler.

Oh, and by the way, Dolph Ziggler debuted Mason Ryan, but he still lost to John Cena, who was selling his arm injury. Omen? Perhaps.
