Tommy Hunter (2-1, 4.26 ERA) has led the club to four wins in five starts. He's coming off a 5-2 home victory over the Oakland Athletics, where he up two runs and seven hits over seven frames. The right-hander is 0-1 with a 9.26 ERA in two road starts, serving up six home runs in just 11.2 innings, with opposing hitters batting .319 against him.
Sports bettors will find that the Orioles are 7-1 in Hunter's last eight outings as an underdog, while the "over" is 11-3-1 in that situation.
Boston is an unthinkable 4-9 at home this year, with the pitching staff compiling an inflated 6.17 ERA in those 13 contests. The Red Sox are in last place in the AL East standings, sitting 7.0 games back of the Tampa Bay Rays.
Clay Buchholz (3-1, 8.69 ERA) has received 45 runs of support in his first five starts this year, but he's also given up at least five earned runs in each of those efforts. The 27-year-old has managed to serve up seven home runs in 29 innings.
The right-hander will be making his 11th career appearance (10 start) versus the Orioles, producing a 5-3 record and 3.26 ERA, including an 0-1 mark and a 5.40 ERA in two outings in 2011. He will need to pitch carefully to Baltimore catcher Matt Wieters, who is 6-for-14 (.429) in his career against him.
The Red Sox are 6-0 in Buchholz's last six starts as a home favorite, with the "over" cashing in seven of nine opportunities in that role.
Weather forecasts suggest mostly cloudy skies and game-time temperatures in the upper-50s, with a 5-10 mph breeze out of the east (in from right).
