World Hockey Championship 2012: USA Will Ride Canada Victory to Championship

Justin WeltonMay 5, 2012

Defeating the best team in the world should boost your confidence level through the roof, right?

Similar to Chelsea defeating Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League (my apologies if you don't like soccer) this victory over Canada will give United State the confidence it needs to win the championship.

Jack Johnson scored the game-winning goal in overtime to give the United States the 5-4 victory.

A victory, especially like this, will give the United States major confidence going forward. It is a team-building victory that proves worthy in the end game.

Chemistry, belief, spirit, morale and everything in between shows after a victory such as this.

United States will remember how this victory felt; it will be a long-lasting feeling.

For years now, Canada has been the greatest hockey nation on earth. The majority of NHL players are either born in Canada or Europe.

Quietly, the United States is creeping back into the conversation of the best team in the world. They aren't there yet; they're not really close. However, if they can win this championship, which I think they will after that morale-boosting victory, then people will be forced to realize that they are for real.

You can just label this victory as one win, but it was much more than that. This was about respect and dignity.

United States deserves it after its 5-4 overtime victory of Canada.

Slovakia is up next for the Americans and I don't see a letdown in the future.
