Kentucky Derby 2012: Unknown Horses Who'll Be Favorites in Preakness

The Kentucky Derby is a grand event that we have no issue in debating, dissecting and predicting, but there is the Preakness to consider when watching on Saturday. 

The second leg of the Triple Crown looms in the not-so-distant future, and we have some thoughts on horses that will breakout and be far more marquee at that time than they were this week. 

It's been all Union Rags, Bodemeister and Dullahan in the build-up to the most exciting two minute sin sports. 

It's time we gave some other thoroughbreds a great deal more love. Here is a brief breakdown of horses that will feature heavily in the last throes of the Derby, and will be considered far more dangerous as contenders at the subsequent Preakness Stakes. 

Trinniberg

Trinniberg is arguably the fastest horse in the field, so you would think he would get a lot more run as a potential top-three finisher. 

The fact is Trinniberg hasn't run any race over seven furlongs, making his endurance a huge question mark. I submit that the well-trained horse will fare much better than we all give him credit for. 

If not, the longer Derby will give him the ample experience needed to use his speed to dominate the Preakness. 

Sabercat

Sabercat is another horse that I am convinced will fare far better on Saturday than the odds would like to suggest. 

Sabercat is coming a long way as he starts from the  No.18 post, but I like jockey Corey Nakatani and the expertise needed to measure when to put the spurs to him. By the end of Saturday, we will have a new contender at Preakness. 

Take Charge Indy

There is a lot to like about Take Charge Indy, but the best part is the post position that he has coming in. 

The three-year old will have the No. 3 post and be jockeyed by Calvin Borel, a man that loves to get to the inside and ride the post.
