Mayweather vs. Cotto Odds: Insane Line Makes Overrated Fight Not Worth Betting

Wes ODonnellJun 7, 2018

Do you think Floyd "Money" Mayweather is going to defeat Miguel Cotto this weekend at the MGM Grand?

Are you so confident that you're willing to bet on it?

Good luck, because you'll have to risk $800 to earn just $100, according to Sportsbook.com. That is the line on "Money" Mayweather, minus-800, while his opponent is plus-500.

That is how confident Las Vegas is in "Money" winning this weekend over the 31-year-old Puerto Rican.

The line is so outrageous that betting on Cotto isn't even worth it, because he's not going to win. The last person he fought that was of Mayweather's caliber happened to be Manny Pacquiao—he ran away from the Filipino after getting hurt early and was ultimately TKOd in the 12th round.

Mayweather is not as strong as Pacquiao, but he's faster and a more technical fighter. If he doesn't want to get hit by Cotto, he won't get hit by Cotto. He can dance around all fight and he'll hit him when he wants to. If Cotto opens up and comes after him, Floyd will make him pay.

A one-eyed Antonio Margarito went 10 rounds before Cotto was finally able to stop him.

Margs has the heart of a warrior, and is one of those willing to "die" in the ring, but he's not in Mayweather's class.

The undefeated American is going to cause problems for Cotto whenever he wants.

Is it worth risking money on Mayweather to land the win, if it's such a sure-fire lock?

Heck no.

This is boxing, where anything can happen in one punch. Watch Mayweather's last fight to see it happen live.

Betting on Cotto is pointless. In fact, betting on anything in this fight is pointless.

Buy the fight if you must, but don't waste any more money it.
