Kentucky Derby 2012 Contenders: Take Charge Indy Is Best Bet in Stacked Field

If you want the most bang for your buck during Saturday's Kentucky Derby, Take Charge Indy is the horse you should be "riding" on. 

The three-year-old colt isn't heavily favored (16/1), but there are so many legitimate contenders at Churchill this year. Taking a horse with favorable odds just isn't worth it, unless you're not trying to make some moola. 

Instead, picking a horse that is currently in the middle of the pack, but still has a very good chance at victory is a much better way to go. 

That's where Take Charge Indy comes in. According to ESPN's Jeannine Edwards, who is a self-proclaimed animal lover and equestrian, Take Charge Indy has looked solid today.

But plenty of other things make this colt an intriguing bet.

First, let's take a look at his pedigree, which is extremely important when it comes to horses. It's like betting on Michael Jordan's son to dominate the NBA.

OK, not the best example, but I digress.

Take Charge Indy comes from the same bloodline as Seattle Slew and Secretariat, who both won the Triple Crown in their days. 

Going back to the same NBA reference, that's like having Michael Jordan as your grandfather and Wilt Chamberlain as your great-grandfather.

AKA, it's good.

Also, don't forget that Take Charge Indy is being ridden by Calvin Borel, who has won just about every big race out there, including the Kentucky Derby in 2007, 2009, and 2010.

Lastly, Joe Fortenbaugh just tweeted that the colt has a favorable starting position.

I know I'm convinced. And if making money is something you might be interested in then Take Charge Indy is the horse you must bet on.
