Sarah Phillips: Strange Saga of ESPN Columnist Leaves Many Unanswered Questions

Adam WellsMay 2, 2012

The Sarah Phillips saga has more twists and turns than most psychological thrillers. Yet the reports that have come out about the now-former ESPN columnist are just beginning to scratch the surface of how deep this really goes.

On Tuesday, Deadspin released a detailed report about Phillips and her rise through the Internet ranks, starting with her message board writing for Covers.com up through her work and subsequent firing from ESPN.com.

In the article, Phillips appears to be working with Nilesh Prasad to get money out of a young man to supposedly start an Internet website of their own, though it was presented to "Ben" as an opportunity to work and make money.

This situation continues to go tumbling down the rabbit hole with a report from AwfulAnnouncing.com that was trying to investigate the mystery of Prasad and his role in this whole situation.

The site took to Twitter to contact people with any information on Prasad. There were a few people who hit them back with something on him, though it is hardly enough to tell you anything substantial.

Most of it is just information on where he went to high school, but even that gets called into question because records have a Nilesh Prasad graduating from North Eugene High School, not Sheldon High School.

Awful Announcing was in touch with a Sheldon student who said that Prasad was there at the same time she was.

"

@awfulannouncing he was Sheldon HS, but not 2007, I was 2007 and he was 2-3 years older than me.

— Kendra (@Keendra23) May 2, 2012"

It is possible that Prasad transferred schools, so that's not exactly groundbreaking stuff. It just deepens the mystery of this whole situation.

Even as you try to break this whole mess down, you can't because there are so many things that we don't know and are impossible to answer.

Not even the best writers in Hollywood could come up with a story this layered, deep and mysterious without having their heads explode.

Who is Nilesh Prasad? What was his role with Sarah Phillips? What was Phillips doing? How deep does this situation go? Where is the end game? How many people have been affected by this mess?

Those are just the questions that scratch the surface of this, and there will surely be plenty more to come as we begin to see the layers fall apart.
