WWE Extreme Rules Results: John Cena Defeats Brock Lesnar in a Brutal Contest

Chris HumphreyApr 29, 2012

With the title of Sunday night’s pay-per-view being Extreme Rules, the main event match between Brock Lesnar and John Cena definitely lived up to the extreme part, as there has not been a match like that in the WWE for years.

At the outset of the match, Lesnar used his patented shoot takedown to drop Cena to the mat and land hard elbows on the head of his opponent that left him with a huge gash on the left side of his head.

Following the initial flurry of offense, Lesnar would go on to just tear apart Cena with repeated blows to the open wound on his skull along with using his signature chain to hang him from the ring post and do further damage.

During one point of the match, Lesnar locked in a Kimura, a move usually reserved for MMA, which looks like it actually did damage to Cena, as throughout the rest of the match he seemed to favor his left arm or avoid using it altogether.

In the latter moments of the match, Cena was able to regain a chain he had lost earlier and cracked Lesnar in the face with it, giving him enough time to be able to hit the AA on the steel steps—that Lesnar brought into play earlier in the match—for the win.

Even though a lot of fans of the WWE and professional wrestling in general despise John Cena, I, for one, have found a new respect for the controversial superstar after the battle that he went through Sunday night at Extreme Rules.

Outside of the performance by Cena in the Extreme Rules match, the WWE did a great job with the event tonight in Chicago from the two-out-of-three falls match between Daniel Bryan and Sheamus to the Chicago Street Fight between CM Punk and Chris Jericho.

After watching Cena win after taking all the abuse from Lesnar during their Extreme Rules match, did your opinion of Cena change at all after seeing him come out on top in the grueling contest with the beast that is Brock Lesnar Sunday night?
