Marko Marin: German Star Adds Much-Needed Youth to Chelsea Midfield

The signing of German star midfielder Marko Marin will inject some youth and playmaking into an aging Chelsea midfield.

Marin is a tremendous playmaker with exquisite passing skills, and while he's not a pure goal scorer, he can find the back of then net when he's aggressive in the attacking third.

He's similar to fellow German and Real Madrid star midfielder Mesut Ozil in that both are great passers and very intelligent players.

When Blues legend Lampard decides to retire, Marin will be able to step right in and give Chelsea a lot of the similar skills Lampard has.

Marin can open up scoring opportunities with his slick passing and can be counted on as a reliable penalty-kick taker.

Like Lampard, Marin also has the ability to take free kicks well with his solid curve and impressive accuracy. He probably won't take many free kicks over Chelsea players like Didier Drogba, but he is certainly an option if needed.

He also has some impressive versatility in his ability to excel in the middle of the pitch or on the wing.

Marin will be able to run down the flanks an cause problems for defenders with his speed, quickness and effective dribbling skills. Marin and Ashley Cole would be a solid tandem on the left side for Chelsea in the coming years.

For only £7 million, Chelsea are getting a phenomenal deal on a young player of Marin's quality. This is the kind of smart spending in the transfer market that the club needs to do more of.

You don't need to spend £50 million on someone like Fernando Torres to improve your club now and in the future.

Marin is a great young talent who can help Chelsea next season and well into the future.
