2012 NFL Draft Grades: Most Underrated Selections Overall

Justin WeltonJun 7, 2018

Every NFL draft has players who are overrated and underrated. While most people love to hear about train-wrecks and disasters, I'm going to focus on bright spots.

Here are four of the most underrated players in the 2012 NFL draft.

Mohamed Sanu

Former Rutgers wide receiver Mohamed Sanu was selected in Round 3 (Pick 83) by the Cincinnati Bengals

Thank you very much.

Sanu was thought of being a No. 1 or at least a No. 2 type talent in this year's NFL draft. He slipped to the 83rd pick and Cincinnati was happy about that.

He doesn't have the greatest speed, but his intangibles are rock solid.

Sanu is a great fit opposite A.J. Green.

Grades:

Fit: A

Quality: B+

Value: A

Fletcher Cox

Philadelphia trading up to the 12th pick get defensive tackle Fletcher Cox was a brilliant idea by Andy Reid. He will solidify their need on the defensive line.

Cox has great size and unusual speed for the defensive tackle position. He has been durable and productive in his career at Mississippi State.

Defensive and offensive linemen never get the notoriety they deserve. In fact, the offensive and defensive line are the second-most important areas to a football team behind the quarterback.

Pittsburgh has had issues protecting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Some of those issues are placed on Roethlisberger, but more harshly towards the offensive line.

When offensive guard David DeCastro fell to the Steelers with the 24th selection, their offensive line issues were instantly upgraded.

Kevin Colbert and the Steelers front office didn't waste much time sending in the pick.

DeCastro has all the tools of becoming a pro bowl player in the NFL. This was an easy decision for the Steelers in the first round.

Lamar Miller

With the second pick in the fourth round (97th overall) the Miami Dolphins selected Miami product Lamar Miller.

Miller has great intangibles, a solid motor and high-end speed. He will be the future starting running back for the Dolphins if he continues to improve and display consistent durability.
