WWE: Why Eve Is Here to Stay

Sharon GlencrossApr 28, 2012

One thing is for sure: Heel diva Eve Torres looks set to dominate WWE's women's division for quite some time.

This fact was established on last week's episode of Raw, when the former Diva Search winner waltzed out moments before the Divas Championship bout between Nikki Bella and Beth Phoenix was due to start and announced that, per John Laurinaitis' instructions, she was now in the charge of WWE's wayward divas division.

She then changed the previously advertised singles match to a lumberjills match, bringing out every other diva on the roster (including NXT's Maxine, whom many fans didn't even recognize) to be at ringside.

Of course, while this may be Eve's first act of power, it will almost certainly not be her last, as she looks to become the most prominent woman in the company.

Indeed, judging by the evidence, it looks guaranteed that the former NBA dance star is set for a prolonged stint on top and will continue to make life miserable for the other women in WWE.

And here are a few reasons why...

She Has Some Powerful Fans in Management

Per recent reports, WWE owner Vince McMahon has become a big fan of Eve's since she turned heel and thinks highly of her skills as an on-screen performer. It nearly goes without saying that having the boss strongly on her side virtually guarantees the diva is sticking around and will be assured of a top spot.

Her Stunning Good Looks

Even in a company filled with gorgeous, scantily-clad women, the sultry, curvaceous Eve still manages to stand out from the crowd.

Indeed, for all the flaws of the recent Zack Ryder storyline (and there were many), one thing that was never doubted was how easy it was for Zack, or any other man for that matter, to become so completely infatuated with the former Diva Search winner. She is stunning.

Certainly, in a company as image-obsessed as WWE, her looks guarantee her a high-profile spot of some sort for as long as she wants it.

She's a Great Heel

Ever since her sensational heel turn back in February, Eve has shown previously unseen personality and charisma in her promos and segments. Whether she is taunting Zack Ryder, sucking up to John Laurinaitis or berating the fans, she delivers her lines with a smoothness and polish that most women on the roster lack.

Her facial expressions and heat-garnering abilities are also superb, throwing up flattering comparisons with that other great heel manager: Vickie Guerrero.

Her on-Screen Relationship with John Laurinaitis

4 of 6

In recent times, Eve has been strongly linked on screen with Raw and SD general manager John Laurinaitis, as the duplicitous diva attempts to forge a business relationship with the executive and garner herself more power in the promotion.

Indeed, Eve's actions at WrestleMania 28—she cost Team Teddy the victory by distracting Zack Ryder—assured Laurinaitis control over both Raw and SmackDown, and she clearly feels he owes her. Laurinaitis, while initially dismissive of her, seems to have come around. As noted, he has even given her control over the divas division and a permanent place in his new administration.

With powerful friends like these, Eve really is here to stay.

Plenty of Potential for New Storylines with the Divas

As Eve attempts to rule over the women's division with an iron fist, there is no doubt she will end up clashing with some of the babyface personalities like Kelly Kelly, Alicia Fox and Natalya. Indeed, we really can't see feisty girls Kelly or Alicia (both of whom have had issues with Eve in the past) happily going along with whatever the heel diva demands of them.

Done correctly, this could be a better version of Karen Jarrett's angle in TNA with the Knockouts (the obnoxious, overbearing Jarrett feuded with the likes of Velvet Sky and Tara late last year) and help revive WWE's stale and stagnant divas division.

The potential is there, certainly, and WWE management will want to capitalize on it.

She's a Great Wrestler

While the focus may have been shifted to Eve as a character rather than a wrestler in recent times, she still remains one of WWE's most gifted female wrestlers and someone capable of having a good match when required to.

Indeed, thanks to her background in dancing and gymnastics, she is one of the most talented in-ring performs to ever emerge from WWE's Diva Search contest (only Layla El can plausibly lay claim to be better as a wrestler).

Her skill serves to make Eve more of an asset to WWE, as the company struggles to find women who are good all-rounders who can carry things in the ring.
