Mr. Irrelevant 2012: Why Cliff Harris Is Perfect Choice as Final Pick of Draft

Mike HoagJun 7, 2018

Cliff Harris is the perfect choice for Mr. Irrelevant.

The winner (or loser) of the Mr. Irrelevant sweepstakes is a fascinating circumstance. If you've ever been picked last on the playground at recess, you sympathize with whoever is picked.

This year, one eccentric fan has offered herself to Mr. Irrelevant, citing a “special place in my heart for, like, the humiliated, neglected, the last pick on the playground kind of guy.”

That’s right. Mr. Irrelevant in 2012 is also going to be “Mr. Lucky” after Saturday afternoon.

Harris’ troubled career at Oregon includes several run-ins with the law, which led to his expulsion from the team. Those troubles include an arrest for speeding at 118mph. To make matters worse, Harris was driving with a suspended license and was smoking marijuana with teammate Darron Thomas.

Sure, there is a time and place to party. But it’s not on the highway in the middle of the night, driving with a suspended license while smoking a controlled substance.

In 2010, Harris was thought by some to be a first-round pick, despite the question marks around his character.

Janoris Jenkins comes to mind, only infinitely worse.

Even so, the Indianapolis Colts should give Harris a chance at redemption. This truly has the beginnings of an inspirational story for you sappy sports nuts like me out there. And hey, the Colts might end up getting a good player to step in and improve an awful secondary.

Then again, Harris might go up in smoke.
