NY Yankees GM Brian Cashman Admits Potential Blunder of Pineda-Montero Trade

Mike MoraitisJun 7, 2018

You can say a lot of things about New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, but one thing you can't call him is dishonest.

The Bombers GM admitted that after the season-ending injury to Michael Pineda, his decision to pull the trigger on the deal that sent prized prospect, Jesus Montero, to the Seattle Mariners was the wrong one at this point (via ESPNNewYork.com).

"

'This is a massive decision gone wrong right now,' Cashman told ESPNNewYork.com on Friday. 'So all scrutiny is fair.'

Even when Cash had a chance to deflect attention off himself and potentially place it on the Mariners or even hint that they could've known Pineda was damaged goods, he immediately shot it down.

"

'The focus should be on me and the New York Yankees, not the Seattle Mariners,' he said. 'I'm responsible. I'm the decision-maker.'

"

Many fans have questioned Cashman over the years as he has made his fair share of questionable moves. But the thing about Cash is that he actually takes accountability for his mistakes while rarely taking credit for his successes.

That is about as admirable a trait as you can find in a MLB general manager.

For the moment, Cash is and will be on the hook for this move if it continues to fail as it has so far.

Kill him all you want for that, but at least give Cashman credit for seeing the error in his ways when he does make that mistake.
