NFL Draft 2012 Results: Highlighting Biggest Steals of Round 1
In a short time, we are going to look back at the first round of the 2012 NFL draft and realize how many steals there were.
It seems like every team was trying to move up last night, but that also means plenty of teams were willing to move down. That speaks to the amount of talent that was to be had near the end of the first round and beyond.
Here's a look at players who will be seen as the biggest steals by this time next year.
Nick Perry, DE/OLB, Green Bay Packers
The former USC Trojan is still a little raw, but there is no doubting his ferocious speed, athleticism and ability to get to the quarterback.
Besides Clay Matthews, the Green Bay Packers seriously lacked consistent play from their linebacking corps.
It wouldn't be surprising to see Perry, who has ridiculous talent and upside, immediately start at outside linebacker right away. That is quite a steal for the 28th overall pick.
David DeCastro, OG, Pittsburgh Steelers
As a, uh, non-fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, it hurt me to see them make a such an awesome pick.
Not only should have DeCastro been drafted by about 15th at the very latest, but he fills one of Pittsburgh's biggest needs as an interior lineman.
DeCastro, a top-10 talent, probably saw his stock drop because teams don't always want to spend a first-round pick on a guard, but he will certainly be worth it.
Blessed with solid quickness and agility, DeCastro is absolutely elite in the run game. He's hard-nosed and not afraid to get into defensive players and drive them up the middle, but he's also mobile enough to pull for sweeps.
He's perfect for Pittsburgh's system and he was a value pick. Steal.
Melvin Ingram, DE/OLB, San Diego Chargers
Ingram isn't exactly the perfect fit for San Diego's 3-4 defense, and they already have a good amount of linebacker talent, but his skills will help him get on the field immediately.
The former Gamecock blends a unique combination of pure strength and good speed around the corner. He has a good array of moves that help him shed blockers, and he's also very good at getting low.
No matter where the Chargers put him, Ingram is going to make things very difficult for opposing quarterbacks.
