2012 NFL Mock Draft: Day 2 Predictions for Bills, Patriots, Jets and Dolphins

Erik FrenzJun 7, 2018

All it takes is one trade to mess up a mock draft, and on Thursday night, the first round of the 2012 NFL draft was host to 18 trades—the most since 1970.

A few players slipping down boards have also shaken up the second round.

With help from B/R's resident draft guru Matt Miller, we get an updated look at the players available on Day 2 of the draft.

And with that, here are some predictions for what each AFC East team might do with their picks.

Second Round, Pick 41: Buffalo Bills—Stephen Hill, WR, Georgia Tech

I don't project trades, but I have a feeling the Bills might have move up to get Hill if they want him.

The Bills passed up Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd in the first round and could still use a physical outside-the-numbers presence to help stretch out the passing game.

Stephen Hill may be raw in some areas of his game, but his upside is immense.

Second Round, Pick 42: Miami Dolphins—Vinny Curry, DE, Marshall

After adding their franchise quarterback with their first pick, the Dolphins get to add another cornerstone for their team, but this time at the defensive end spot. As the Dolphins transition to a hybrid defensive front, Curry can play both defensive end and outside linebacker, rushing the quarterback well from both spots.

Putting Curry opposite Cameron Wake would make for one heck of a pass-rushing duo in Miami.

Second Round, Pick 47: New York Jets—Bobby Massie, OT, Mississippi

With seven draft picks now spent on defensive and offensive linemen in the first two rounds since 2006, it's obvious that the Jets hold value in the trenches with their early draft picks. With their second-round pick, the Jets can find great value in a massive right tackle in Bobby Massie.

He would immediately contribute to the Jets ground-and-pound offense and is an upgrade as a pass blocker over Wayne Hunter (who isn't?)

Second Round, Pick 48: New England Patriots—Mohamed Sanu, WR, Rutgers

The Patriots currently have 10 wide receivers on the roster, but almost all of them fall into one or both of these categories: on a one-year deal or over 30 years old. The Patriots need young, long-term solutions at receiver, and the friendship between Bill Belichick and former Rutgers coach Greg Schiano is well-known.

Second Round, Pick 62: New England Patriots—George Iloka, S, Boise State

Even with two big-time defensive additions on Thursday night, the Patriots could still use some more reinforcements, specifically at safety. Enter George Iloka, a new breed of safety.

At 6'3" and 225 pounds, Iloka is freakishly big and has the strength and speed to cover even the most difficult match-up of tight ends in the NFL.

I'm sticking with both of my picks from my mock draft final draft for the Patriots.

Third Round, Pick 71: Buffalo Bills—Zebrie Sanders, OT, Florida State

Depth at offensive tackle was one of the Bills' biggest needs headed into the draft, and although Zebrie Sanders may be more of a right tackle than a left tackle, he can at least provide some depth should an injury shake things up on the offensive line, as they did so frequently for the Bills in 2011.

Third Round, Pick 72: Miami Dolphins—Josh Robinson, CB, Central Florida

Robinson had the fastest 40-yard dash at the combine, so some team that has fallen in love with his athleticism may reach on him earlier than the third round. If he's available, though, the Dolphins would be wise to add an athletic defensive back, which is clearly a need for them at the moment.

Third Round, Pick 73: Miami Dolphins—Brian Quick, WR, Appalachian State

He may take some time to develop into an NFL receiver, but Quick has the measurables to make him a dream target for Ryan Tannehill at 6'4", 220 pounds and running a 4.48-second 40-yard dash at the combine. Could be a steal for the Dolphins in the third round.

Third Round, Pick 77: New York Jets—Nick Toon, WR, Wisconsin

After adding a defensive linemen in the first round, the Jets spend their next two picks providing Sanchez added protection and added weaponry. If the Jets are serious about returning to the ground-and-pound, they could go with a running back or a wide receiver to help open things up underneath for whoever is running with the ball.
