2012 NFL Draft: 7 Players the Atlanta Falcons Should Watch on Day 2

Scott CarasikApr 26, 2012

With the first round out of the way, Atlanta Falcons fans can finally get to see their team pick not just once, but twice today. It's definitely going to be a fun ride, and there are quite a few guys who somehow slipped out of the first round into the second round.

We'll take a look at the top seven players Atlanta should look at for their needs and who would be a good fit in the Flowery Branch.

OT Jonathan Martin

1 of 6

Atlanta needs a left tackle, and there are quite a few available, but the top guy is Jonathan Martin.

If he were to somehow slip to around No. 45, it would be smart for the Falcons to look into a trade up for him. Martin could easily start for the next 10 years for Atlanta.

DE Courtney Upshaw

2 of 6

Courtney Upshaw is one of the top pass-rushers in the draft and is from nearby Alabama. Atlanta would love to have someone of his caliber as a pass-rusher, and he could very well end up as the Falcons' next pick if he falls some more.

OL Cordy Glenn

3 of 6

The Falcons' offensive line took a huge step back when Harvey Dahl left for St. Louis.

While Glenn won't come in and have the instant fit that Dahl did, Glenn is a great fit for the scheme and would give Atlanta a second huge offensive guard to start with Blalock and Clabo. With those three, Atlanta would have one of the largest lines in the NFL.

TE Coby Fleener

4 of 6

Coby Fleener is the best tight end to come out in the draft since Kellen Winslow was taken by the Browns a few years back.

The Falcons are looking for a guy who can learn from Gonzalez for a year and then take over as the long term replacement. Fleener is definitely that guy and would be a steal.

WR Alshon Jeffery or Stephen Hill

5 of 6

Contrary to popular belief, the Falcons could use a wide receiver, especially with more four and five wide receiver sets under Koetter.

Jeffery is a great fit and could end up as an eventual replacement for Roddy White. Hill is another beast who is still available but would likely be a deep threat at WR early and then later on learn how to do the rest of the game.

LB Bobby Wagner

6 of 6

Bobby Wagner is a great middle linebacker and could end up as the Falcons' starting middle linebacker in 2012.

Wagner is one of the most athletic fits for any team and could end up as a perfect fit for a sub package nickel linebacker with Weatherspoon. He's excellent in coverage and has athleticism that would compare only to Ray Lewis.
