Justin Blackmon: Teams That Need Star WR

Jesse ReedJun 7, 2018

Justin Blackmon is going to be a star in the NFL, and wide receiver-needy teams will need to take him sooner rather than later.

He won't last long on the board once Roger Goodell kicks off the 2012 NFL Draft to a chorus of boos—gotta love the Big Apple.

Here are the teams that need to select Blackmon when they go on the clock at Radio City Music Hall.

Cleveland Browns

The Browns have reportedly traded up with the Minnesota Vikings to move from the No. 4 pick in the draft to No. 3, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Schefter also says the move is to grab Richardson.

Many people assume it's so they can grab Trent Richardson, but I'm not so sure it isn't so they can snag Blackmon.

SI.com's Peter King isn't sure, either, via Twitter:

"

Hang on. Not positive it's Richardson. One team in top 10 just told me, "It might be Blackmon.'' So hang on.

This would be smart.

The Browns need to assemble weapons on offense for whoever ends up behind center in 2012. Greg Little is a talented young receiver with plenty of upside, but after him they are bone dry.

Blackmon fits in with their West Coast offense. He's strong, quick and best of all is excellent after the catch.

After Percy Harvin, the Vikings are frightfully short of talent at the wide receiver position.

If Christian Ponder is to have any amount of success GM Rick Spielman must address this early in the draft.

The safe pick for the Vikings would seem to be Matt Kalil, the tackle out of USC. However, quarterbacks need receivers that can get open on a regular basis. If they don't have them, the best protection in the world won't hold up against NFL pass-rushers.

Pairing Blackmon with Harvin—along with the talented young tight end Kyle Rudolph and newly acquired John Carlson—will greatly improve the Vikings' chances of finding success on offense.

St. Louis Rams

Sam Bradford needs a No. 1 receiver. The only player on their roster at this moment that comes anywhere close to being a playmaker is Steve Smith, and he's a No. 2 guy at best.

Blackmon would bring life to this wasteland.

His ability to beat one-on-one coverage would force teams to assign two men to cover him, opening up more opportunities for the lesser-talented receivers to be effective underneath.

The Rams won't be done looking for playmaking wide receivers if they land Blackmon, and will likely select at least one more in this year's draft.
