2012 NFL Draft: Who Will the Indianapolis Colts Select in Round 2?
For the Indianapolis Colts and their fans, there was no suspense with the first pick in the draft. The team confirmed days ago, that they intended to take Andrew Luck with the first overall pick.
The real mystery will be solved tonight. Who will they pick in the second round? Here are some names the Colts should be considering.
Coby Fleener - TE
He's Andrew Luck's teammate from Stanford. He plays a position the Colts have a dire need for. He was projected by many to be a first-round pick, and the best tight end in the draft. What's not to like here? This seems like a no-brainer for the Colts.
Stephen Hill - WR
Another receiving threat that was projected by many to go in the first round. Hey, Andrew Luck needs to be surrounded by weapons, and this guy could be a big-time weapon. He ran a 4.36 in the 40-yard dash at the combine. At 6'4" and 215 pounds, he'd be a big target for Luck.
Alshon Jeffrey - WR
Like I said, surround Luck with weapons. Unlike Fleener and Hill, Jeffrey was not projected to be a first-round pick. That can be blamed more on South Carolina's offense and quarterback than Jeffrey's play. Like Hill, he'd be a big target for Luck at wide receiver. He's 6'3" and 215 pounds.
Rueben Randle - WR
Yes, another wide receiver. I'm serious about the Colts needing to surround Luck with weapons, and the Colts should be too. Like the previous receivers mentioned, Randle is a big target at 6'3" and 210 pounds. He's a physical receiver and good blocker, but is more of a possession receiver than Hill or Jeffrey.
Janoris Jenkins - CB
Cornerback Janoris Jenkins. Not a weapon for Andrew Luck, but a solid weapon for this defense. A blue-chip talent that has fallen in the draft due to the dreaded "character concerns." He's been busted for marijuana, and has four children by three different women. NFL Network's draft expert, Mike Mayock said he'd be a Top 10 or 12 pick if it wasn't for character concerns. Would the Colts take a chance on him at 34?
I'm torn between Jenkins and Fleener, but I'd probably go with Fleener. Got to make that new QB happy. He's a familiar face for Luck at a position the Colts are extremely thin at. Not to mention the best tight end in the draft. Like I said, a no-brainer.
