NFL Draft 2012 Results: Teams Sure to Score Big in Round 1
The 2012 NFL draft has finally arrived, and after months of heavy scrutiny, it is almost time for teams to lock in their selections. The outcomes of the draft are unpredictable, with any team capable of making last-minute changes or trades.
On the other hand, not every college football star in the draft will make a smooth transition to the next level. Some will be jackpots, while others will be busts. After all is said and done, there are a few teams that are sure to score big in the first round.
Indianapolis Colts: 1st Pick
Everyone knows the Colts are selecting Andrew Luck with the first overall pick in the draft. The former Stanford QB will be the new face of the franchise. Although there is already immense pressure on Luck to succeed in Indianapolis, the young star will thrive under that pressure and lead the Colts back to the playoffs.
The Colts went 2-14 in 2011 and did a complete overhaul during the offseason, getting rid of notable players like Peyton Manning and Gary Brackett. If Colts fans are patient with their team, they will realize the franchise is changing for the better, and that begins with Luck.
Of course, the Colts will have to surround him with talent, but their No. 1 pick puts them at the top of the list of first round winners.
Cleveland Browns: 4th and 22nd Picks
Most mock drafts have the Cleveland Browns taking either RB Trent Richardson or WR Justin Blackmon with the fourth overall pick. Honestly, it will be a win-win either way.
Both athletes are the top players of their positions in this year's draft, and the Browns need to fill both positions. The team is sure to come out with a phenomenal offensive talent.
Richardson is an extremely gifted, polished running back from Alabama. He is an explosive playmaker who is also balanced and instinctual, which is just what the Browns need. His ability to break arm tackles and catch passes in the backfield make him the best running back in the 2012 class.
Justin Blackmon is easily the top wide receiver in the draft this year. The Biletnikoff Award recipient (given to the country's top collegiate wide receiver) is a serious red-zone threat. As a natural receiver, Blackmon can excel from any spot on the field. He would be a great weapon for Colt McCoy.
Cincinnati Bengals: 17th and 21st Picks
The Cincinnati Bengals also have two first-round picks this year and are in excellent shape leading up to the draft. The team's immediate needs are cornerback, wide receiver and offensive lineman.
Stephon Gilmore is a dynamic cornerback whose name has been thrown into Bengals talks. He made a lot of big plays for South Carolina and would add much-needed depth to the CB position.
The Bengals are a young team, and expect them to use their nine picks to pile on even more young talent. With two first-round picks, they have the opportunity to meet their needs early in the draft, then take the best player available for the remainder.
